Everything You Need To Know About Auburn
The Alabama city of Auburn sits in the eastern section of the state, about 30 miles from the Georgia border. The city is located 55 miles east of Montgomery, 35 miles west of Columbus, Georgia, and about 105 miles southwest of the Georgia state capital of Atlanta. It is the largest city in eastern Alabama and is home to Auburn University, Alabama's largest university. The city is served by three principal highways: Interstate 85, U.S. Route 29, and U.S. Route 280.
Founded in 1836 and incorporated three years later, the city of Auburn derived its name from a line in "The Deserted Village," a poem by Oliver Goldsmith. The line "Sweet Auburn, the loveliest village of the plain" also gave the city its unofficial nickname. Originally chartered in 1856, the earliest incarnation of Auburn University was known as the East Alabama Male College. The institution would undergo a few names changes through the years (Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama, Alabama Polytechnic Institute) before becoming known as Auburn University in 1960. Auburn today has an economy centered around the university and university-affiliated services.

Church In Auburn
1. St. Joseph Catholic Church
In 1857, Dennis and Bridget Hyland deeded three acres of land to Archbishop Alemany for $5.00. It was on this land that Fr. Dalton, a priest from Grass Valley, built the mission of St. Joseph Church in Foresthill, 22 miles from Auburn in June 1958. On June 17, 1860, Fr. Logan took over the church, which was elevated to parish status on July 14, 1861. He also built a Catholic school on July 17, 1861. In September of 1859, the first Catholic church in Auburn was dedicated under the patronage of St. Teresa of Avila, and was a mission of St. John the Baptist in Folsom. Auburn was not a parish until July of 1886.
In March of 1911 a bigger church was built and became the parish we now know at this time, the church facing Lincoln Way; the parish of Foresthill became a mission, and the name “St. Joseph” was transferred to Auburn (suppressing the name “St. Teresa”). In 1947, Fr. Sheehy built a Catholic school in Auburn, which was moved to the Atwood Road property in 1980. Then, due to the tremendous growth in the area, another church under the original name of the church in Auburn, St. Teresa of Avila, was built next to the school in 1994.
2. Auburn Berean Church
We believe the bible, consisting of both the Old and New Testament Scriptures in their entirety, is the only divinely inspired, inerrant, objectively true, and authoritative written Word of God, and only the infallible rule of faith and practice. The divine inspiration of Scripture extends to each word of the original manuscripts, but not to the various copies or translations of Scripture. The Bible should be interpreted literally, grammatically, contextually, and historically.
We believe in only one God, the Creator, who is infinite, personal, eternally existing in three persons, and who is revealed to us in Scripture as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is God the Son who has neither beginning nor ending. He was conceived in the flesh by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is fully God and fully man. Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and arose bodily on the third day.
