Denim is one type of fabric name which is made from Stretch twill or 100% cotton twill. It is known as a fashionable fabric. Different kinds of clothing or apparel styles can be produced by using this type of fabric. In the apparel manufacturing industry, denim is used not only for making pants but also for skirts, jackets, shorts, etc. It should be noted here that, all denim is not jeans. You should know some basic differences between denim and jeans.

Jeans are a ubiquitous fashion staple, worn by many. They transcend class, gender, race, age, and location, but jeans weren’t always the fashion democratizing style choice they are today. They have a rich and interesting history, indicative of the social and political climate of the time. During the 19th-century gold rush in California, the need arose for durable workwear that could withstand intensive mining conditions. Durable and sturdy, denim was the perfect material, and thus the first pair of jeans was created thanks to a partnership between tailor Jacob W. Davis and Levi Strauss.
However, most of today’s jeans wouldn’t last one week in a mine. In order to keep up with the high demand for jeans, many manufacturers prioritize speed and cost-cutting over quality. A lot of modern-day denim is thinner, lower-quality and a far cry from the durability it was once renowned for. Yet, everyone needs a new pair every now and then, so if there’s one thing you should invest in, it’s a pair of high-quality, luxury jeans that last you a long while. They may be more expensive, but it’s more cost-effective in the long run, not to mention more sustainable for the environment as you won’t be replacing your luxury jeans as often as you would your fast fashion jeans.
The timelessness and durable properties of denim make it one of the most versatile fabrics we have. From jeans and jackets to bags and boots, the uses for denim are endless (just ask Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake circa. 2001). But because our denim items are so popular, we have a tendency to wear them all day, every day, and this can cause some wear-and-tear.
This article will be a guide to the basics of denim jean fabric types to help you figure out the best way to care for them, and repair them if needed, to help you save some money and help save the planet from more fashion waste. Denim is created with clean cotton fibres combined into long strings, which are woven tightly together with an industrial machine. The key denim fabric properties durability and thickness come from the strength of these twists of yarn. This tightness also means that when the material is dyed, only the surface receives the dye and the thread below remains white. Below are some of the common properties of denim jeans.

7. Imogene & Willie
we started our brand with an online campaign. we sent out a blog two years ago at 3am in the morning in january and told people about our dream. we just simply wanted to sew a good jean for both men and women that fit perfectly. we hoped that the gas station would become a destination for lovers of denim and other treasures.
we introduced our dream with only a single email. our plan was to try to sell 250 jeans in our inaugural fits: imogene (for women) and willie (for men). orders started coming in from all over the country, and then from all over the world. we sold 250 pairs in three weeks, then another 250 in the weeks that followed. it was looking like imogene + willie could become a reality. so, after months of planning, matt and i set up shop in an old service station in Nashville, TN.

After the weaving process, raw denim remains untouched and is not washed or chemically treated. It is common for raw denim to be made from 100% cotton although this is not a defining attribute. The weight and thickness also vary depending on the manufacturer. It is estimated that 90+% of all denim jeans sold are washed (manipulated with water, chemicals and machinery) rather than left raw. Despite the large percentage of washed denim being sold, it does not have the same quality and value as raw denim.
Not only does raw denim last longer, it is more eco and labor friendly due to the lack of chemicals and water used in the manufacturing process. Raw denim is also perfect for those seeking a customized look, as the fading process is natural, authentic and personalized.
