You can order many of these products online, but you can also find a lot of them at your local grocery store, but before we even get into the brands, I want to identify what makes an eco-friendly cleaning product. Terms like “eco” and “natural” aren’t regulated by the government so how can you be sure that you’re getting a product that’s good for your health and the health of the planet?
In the US, cleaning companies aren’t legally required to disclose the ingredients in their products. This is a HUGE issue, especially seeing that many conventional cleaning products can emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs the building blocks of smog) which can trigger asthma and allergy symptoms.
ACAT’s Green Cleaning Service | Green Cleaning RecipesListen to the APRN story: Anchorage Non-Profit Offering Green Cleaning SolutionsWe buy household cleaners to create a healthy environment, yet cleaning products may contain harmful chemicals. These include chemicals that are known or suspected to cause cancer, reproductive damage, depression of the central nervous system, skin irritation, asthma, thyroid disruption, and liver and kidney damage. Cleaning product ingredients are not evaluated for safety before going to market and companies are not required to list all ingredients on their product labels.
Even those products advertised as “natural,” “green,” or “organic” may contain harmful substances. Unless you know exactly what is in a product, you cannot know for sure whether it is safe or toxic. Alaska Community Action on Toxics works at the community, state, and national levels to raise awareness about dangerous chemicals in cleaning supplies and to advocate for precautionary policies that will protect public health and the environment.

Many years ago, my dog ruined my new, expensive rug. I thought to myself, I should be able to clean my rugs like I clean my beddings and towels—it should be that easy! And that’s why I created Ruggable. Just like you, we here at Ruggable believe our homes should be beautiful—but also comfortable, functional, and, well, easy to clean. So let us help you find your perfect rug, so you can spend less time cleaning up a mess and more time creating memories with loved ones.
Did you know that the first Ruggable rug design came from fabric off the shelf at a fabric store? We’ve come a long way since then. With the help of an amazing team, Jeneva created the first washable 2-piece rug system. Ruggable believes in creating safe and comfortable spaces for all of our fellow beings on this planet we call home. Our People, Pets, & Planet initiative works with organizations that help improve the lives of people and pets in need, while also working towards more responsible business practices.

6. Summit Brands
Between globalization and the constant growth of technology, our world is more connected than ever before. We can easily buy products from anywhere in the world without any forethought or consideration. This type of commerce certainly has its pros — more options for consumers, more competitive prices, and more availability across a wide range of products and services. But, the onslaught of overseas-produced and manufactured items often creates a dilemma for the consumer: “What’s the difference? Why buy American-made goods? Why bother?” At Summit Brands, we strive to ensure all our household cleaning products are proudly made in the United States.
At Summit Brands, sustainability is one of our top priorities. From reduced emissions, waste, and water usage to green chemistry, Summit Brands aims to produce household cleaning solutions with an eye to sustainability. The production of all Plink brand items is just one way that we practice sustainable manufacturing.
Covid-19 had consumers scrubbing every inch of their hands and homes throughout the pandemic. Cleaning and disinfectant products and brands jumped on the momentum to digitally advertise to consumers, showcasing how each product might help consumers stay safe during the pandemic. We’ll take a look at how top advertisers in the Household Cleaning Supplies, Cleaning and Disinfectant, and Hand Sanitizers categories performed in January 2020 through August 2021, and how things may shake out through the rest of the year.
Household cleaning brands have typically been uniquely positioned to provide essential cleaning products to consumers. The pandemic created an urgency for brands to advertise the benefits of their germ-killing products to keep them clean and safe. Pathmatics Explorer showed a diverse media mix for the Household Cleaning Supplies category. Desktop Video made up 37% of spend share, Instagram made up 23%, and Facebook made up 23%. Creatives shown on Instagram reached 13.6 billion monthly impressions, despite Desktop Video ranking first in spend share. YouTube.com ranked as the top site for the whole category from January 2020 to September 2021 but had around 7.5 million fewer impressions than Instagram.com

You wouldn’t know it just by looking at it, but a simple coconut carries powerful cleaning properties – while also being a highly renewable resource. It’s the kind of criteria we apply to all of our ingredients through cutting-edge clean chemistry, so you can be confident that every ECOS product is safer for you, and safer for the environment, too.
After several years working as a chemist in the cleaning products industry, Roosevelt University alum Van Vlahakis recognizes the negative health effects of the harsh chemical ingredients used in most cleaning products. He starts his own safer, greener cleaning products company in his garage in Chicago and opens his first facility in Bensenville, IL. We open our first West Coast facility in Huntington Beach, California, to meet the demand for safer cleaning products in the growing environmental movement.

9. Hooley Brown
It’s not just food, beverages, and cosmetics that are guided by consumer trends and external forces. The cleaning product industry is also shaped by market influences: just look at what Instagram ‘clean queen’ Mrs. Hinch has done for Zoflora sales. One of the fastest-rising 2021 home hygiene trends is eco-friendly cleaning products. And for CPG brands willing to embrace natural ingredients, sustainable manufacturing practices, and purposeful packaging, there’s a billion-dollar opportunity waiting in the wing.
Authenticity is the key to success in the green cleaning market. Brands need to embody environmentalism in every aspect of product development, manufacturing, and distribution – and highlight them in the marketing proposition. Putting these values front and center of your labeling and packaging will help to drive uptake. Aspirational consumers are looking to improve green credentials in every aspect of their lives – and household cleaning products are an easy place to start.
