The city of Battle Ground lies near the geographical center of Clark County, 16 miles northeast of Vancouver. The city is sheltered by the Cascades to the east and the Coast Range to the west, and the climate is generally mild. At the time of first contact by Euro-Americans, the area was occupied mainly by Chinook and Western Klickitat Indians. The name Battle Ground, which commemorates an 1855 "battle" that never actually happened, originally referred to a site northeast of the current city, near what is today called Battle Ground Lake. The first permanent non-Indian settler put down roots on the eastern edge of today's Battle Ground in 1862, and the earliest homesteaders tended to congregate to the north and east of today's city.
It wasn't until the railroad came through in 1902 that the name Battle Ground became associated exclusively with the town, and the first town plat was recorded the following year. Formal incorporation did not come until 1951, making Battle Ground the most recent city in Clark County to take that step. The town's economy was dominated by timber, agriculture, and dairy, but population growth was extremely slow until the last decades of the twentieth century. In recent years, as its legacy industries have declined in importance, Battle Ground's proximity to both Portland and Vancouver has drawn a flood of new residents. The first decade of the twenty-first century has seen it become one of the fastest-growing cities in the state, and it remains the commercial, cultural, and educational hub of central Clark County.

1. Niagara Falls Museums
The Battle Ground Hotel Museum is located on the hallowed grounds of Lundy’s Lane Battlefield. The building was bequeathed to the City of Niagara Falls after the death of the prior owner, Ruth Redmond. She was a retired school teacher who purchased buildings on Lundy’s Lane in order to preserve our heritage in the face of modern development. The restored 1850s tavern displays furnished period rooms and artifacts from the War of 1812.
Visitors to the site are given a presentation about village tavern life and early tourism’s fascination with the famed battlefield. The Battle Ground Hotel Museum is the only illustration of a 19th Century inn that exists as a product of the commemoration of the War of 1812, and also as an element of early Ontario tourism. A tower with an observation deck used to be on the property from where early tourists who came to visit the battlefield could have a better view of the area.

1. Sacred Heart Parish
It was in 1997 back at home [in Uganda] when we were visited by a humble Roman Catholic Priest who happens to be a paternal uncle. He celebrated Mass for us at home and he was so composed during Mass. The way he rested his fingers on his chest left me searching for what that posture meant while at Mass! With my frequent attendance of the Sunday Masses, it so happened the altar servers (majority of minor seminaries) also rested their fingers always on their chests like Uncle Father.
Gradually, I was introduced to the altar servers' community at the parish and served in several Masses. One day, a smart seminarian in his pastoral spiritual year, belonging to the Congregation of Holy Cross in Jinja, asked me whether I wanted to join the seminary. The answer was obviously yes, and he said we should pray over it. He has ordained a priest and he still encouraged me. By God's Grace, I was able to complete my Minor and Major seminary studies, and on August 9, 2014, I have ordained a priest to serve the people of God.
